Jacob Rees-Mogg has announced he has received an apology from the Scottish National Party after one of its MSPs said the Tory MP would 'rot in hell'.
James Dornan, who represents Glasgow Cathcart in the Scottish Parliament, slammed the Leader of the House of Commons on Twitter over his stance on the controversial Nationality and Borders Bill.
Rees-Mogg took to social media to comment on a video he filmed about visiting the Border Force National Command Centre.
Replying to Rees-Mogg, Dornan wrote: "Hope you remember this the next time you go to confession.
"You and your cronies are already responsible for the deaths of thousands and you’re now happy to see the most desperate people in the world suffer and drown.
"If your god exists you will undoubtedly rot in hell."
Rees-Mogg revealed in his latest Moggcast podcast that he has received an apology from the SNP over the tweet.
He was asked on the podcast if Dornan should face punitive action.
The Tory MP for North East Somerset replied: "I’m afraid I disagree with that.
"I've had a very nice apology from the SNP for it, which was most gracious, that it was made.
"But I think this SNP MSP is entitled to discuss the likely prospects of my mortal soul.
"It’s quite interesting that you're getting the discussion of hell in public life.
"I think that is theologically interesting concept and I'm glad he takes such an orthodox, Catholic view of the reality of that and that is encouraging.
"But of course he's entitled to say that, that's perfectly fair.

"I’m a public figure, I have gone into this business, nobody forced me to become a Member of Parliament, I did it of my own volition, and people are free to say things about the prospects of my soul are they not? I think that's completely reasonable."
A couple of Tory MSPs have hit out at Dornan over his comments.
Scottish Conservative chief whip Stephen Kerr said: "I try to avoid commenting on this particular MSP; but this latest comment is beyond the pale - the SNP need to tell us why they think it is appropriate they keep this person in their party."
Annie Wells, shadow cabinet secretary for health, said: "Stephen is right. James Dornan's latest outburst is beyond the pale and serious questions need to be asked here."
