Snowy Farr was a tireless fundraiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind; walking the streets of Cambridge accompanied by his collection of birds and animals, often with mice perched on the brim of his hat. This portrait was part of Ray-Jones' project called Happy Extremists and was published in the Sunday Times Magazine in 1970. Snowy, who died in 2007, was awarded an MBE in 1995 and a statue of him was erected in Cambridge in 2012 Illustration: Photograph: Tony Ray-Jones/ SSPL via Getty Images
