Snowmobiler is rescued from floating ice flow after getting lost

A snowmobiler who became stranded on unstable ice was rescued after getting lost in a blizzard.

On Sunday (15 March), the US Coast Guard launched a rescue operation to save the trapped 55-year-old who was approximately a mile off the west shore of Mackinac Island, Michigan.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw, a vessel with “heavy ice breaking capability” was rerouted to the man’s location following the distress call.

The team rescued the individual and their snowmobile, bringing them both aboard the vessel, where medical aid was given and the rider returned to a stable condition.
