Bushwalkers will soon be able to walk 55 kilometres in multi-day treks across the Snowy Mountains, with the federal government set to announce an extra $10 million will go to stage four of the Snowies Iconic Walk project.

Stages one to three of the project are already under construction, providing 44 kilometres of walking paths and other infrastructure connecting Guthega Village, Charlotte Pass Village, the main range loop and Mt Kosciuszko.

The latest stage with funding announced on Thursday will include a path between Perisher Valley and Bullocks Flat of 11 kilometres.

Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Nationals Michael McCormack will announce the funding, which is part of the regional recovery partnerships program, on Thursday.

"Set in the Snowy Mountains, the Snowies Iconic Walk will showcase the unique alpine ecosystems of the Kosciuszko summit precinct," Mr McCormack said

"This is all about attracting visitors to the surrounding region, which suffered devastating social, environmental and economic losses in the 2020 bushfires."

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro, whose electorate includes the Snowy Mountains, said the walking trail would cement the region as the premier adventure destination in the country

"The Snowy Mountains is no longer just a winter destination, it is the destination of choice year round," he said.

The first three stages of the walk are scheduled to be finished next year.
