Snow warning issued for Ayrshire tonight with travel disruption expected

A snow and ice warning has been issued for Ayrshire tonight.

The Met Office yellow warning is in place from 6pm this evening until 2pm tomorrow afternoon.

Weather experts say that up to 5cm of snow could fall overnight with disruption expected to travel.

The Met Office warning reads: "Showers of rain, sleet and snow will move south across parts of Scotland, north Wales and north England through Wednesday evening and into Thursday.

"Whilst not all areas will see these where they do fall ice is expected to form.

"The showers are also likely to fall as snow at times, mainly above 200m but to some lower levels, particularly on Thursday morning over southern Scotland.

"Some accumulations of 1-3cm are likely, again mainly over higher ground, but 5cm or more is possible over parts of southern Scotland."

Parts of Ayrshire have been hit with snow over the past few days with some areas of the region being worse affected than others.
