Snow to blast parts of Britain - but Bristol will escape the cold snap

Parts of the UK will be blasted with snow this week but Bristol will escape the cold snap.

Lows of 2C are expected overnight in our city while some areas in Scotland will see the mercury drop to -1C as the white stuff hits the country once again.

Experts are predicting a dry start to the week for Bristol. with downpours not expected until late on Wednesday night.

Temperatures will slowly climb throughout the week, peaking at 12C on Thursday.

Speaking about the South West region, a spokesperson for the Met Office said: "A cloudy morning in the east with the odd patch of rain, although brighter skies are likely later. Further west there will be sunny spells and a few showers. Maximum temperature 8C.

"Fine at first on Wednesday, but turning wet and windy later. An unsettled end to the week, with further spells of wind and rain, although milder than of late."

Yellow weather warnings for snow are in place for Tuesday for the top of Scotland.

And another risk-to-life warning for wind  is in place on Wednesday for Wales, Scotland and parts of the South West.  Strong gusts are likely to batter the country throughout most of the day.

Tonight:

Rain, with hill snow, for Scotland, perhaps affecting Northern Ireland and northern England for a time. Persistent rain in the southeast. Between these cold with frost and some freezing fog.

Tuesday:

Rain in southeast gradually clearing with fog over central parts gradually lifting. Showers further north dying out away from the coasts, though more persistent rain for the Northern Isles. Cold.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Freezing fog and low cloud lifting, becoming milder as strong winds and rain spread northeast on Wednesday, followed by blustery showers Thursday. Further rain and gales spread north on Friday.
