Victoria is on a weather "rollercoaster", with snow forecast for parts of the state after the warmest Melbourne Cup day in more than half a century.
With the mercury topping 30.4C in the city on Tuesday, the Bureau of Meteorology confirmed it was the hottest daily maximum for the Cup since 1969.
It made for a restless evening as the temperature didn't fall below 21.9C in Melbourne overnight.
"People kicking off the blankets no doubt," senior forecaster Keris Arndt said.
A cold change is moving across Victoria on Wednesday, bringing some rain.
Mr Arndt expects the front to bring dustings of snow down to 1300m around Mount Baw Baw and the slopes of the Eastern Ranges.
"The joys of Victorian springtime," he said.
"It's a rollercoaster."
Melbourne is only expected to receive up to 5mm of rain, with about 15mm likely falling in the ranges.
Gloomy skies are predicted to remain until the weekend, before potential storms develop early next week.
"Tuesday next week will be one to keep an eye on for thunderstorms and potentially thunderstorm asthma with high pollen counts at the moment," Mr Arndt said.
