Snow plows on stand-by in Dublin ahead of cold winter

There are currently seven gritting trucks and seven snow plows on stand-by in south Dublin as temperatures drop across the county.

South Dublin County Council has said they are well prepared for a harsh winter and that it has "sufficient" salt supplies.

Gritters are expected to hit Dublin roads this weekend as a cold snap takes hold.

SDCC Roads Department have all the necessary personnel and equipment in a state of readiness for winter gritting operations should the need arise when weather conditions deteriorate.

This includes trucks and salt gritters, loading equipment and snow ploughs.

Road Maintenance staff liaise with Met Eireann daily, and use the latest information to review predicted weather conditions including road surface temperatures, frost/ice formation, rain or snowfall.

Salt stocks are replenished and will continue to be topped up throughout the season from national stocks provided by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

If you require a gritting box you can contact your local residents association or your local Councillor who will in turn contact SDCC on your behalf.

The national winter ready web site also has very useful information and can be found at https://www.winterready.ie/en

The winter maintenance season formally commenced in October and will run until April 2022.
