Snow joke as bemused Lanarkshire residents spot some unusual grass cutting

No, it's not a late April Fools' day joke, rather an eager council worker getting to work.

Bemused residents contacted Lanarkshire Live after they snapped 'some snow getting cut' in East Kilbride after wintry weather earlier this week.

With grass cutting season now underway the worker was carrying out maintenance duties, but with a layer of snow after heavy flurries, it raised a few eyebrows with locals.

One local told Lanarkshire Live : "The 'hard up' council decided to send out the ground maintenance team to cut our snow.

"There had been a good covering following some heavy showers. I could not believe my ears when I heard the loud noise of the lawnmowers .

"The grass is under a covering of snow, so they are basically cutting the snow. What a massive waste of resources."

Head of facilities, waste and grounds services, Alistair McKinnon, said: “We are now into our regular seasonal programme of grass cutting as part of our grounds maintenance routine.

"Our team has a scheduled programme of routes to undertake each day.

“Given the fact that the sun was out and there was very little snow, the team took the view that it was better to carry out the scheduled maintenance work rather than disrupt the full day’s programme.

"As can be clearly seen in the pictures, the grass was well above the level of the thin dusting of snow and could be cut effectively.”
