Snow is forecast to fall in Manchester this week as Met Office issue weather warning

Snow and ice could cause travel disruption for Manchester and parts of the north on Wednesday, prompting the Met Office to issue a weather warning.

The yellow weather warning for snow and ice will be in force from midnight on Wednesday until 12pm.

Further snow showers and icy surfaces may lead to travel disruption, the Met Office added.

It was issued today as Storm Ciara is causing widespread chaos for travellers with power cuts overnight for thousands of homes and localised flooding and road closures throughout the UK.

The Met Office said: "Further snow showers are likely on Wednesday morning.

"These are likely to lead to further accumulations of a few cm of snow over ground above around 150 metres.

"Any snow accumulations over lower ground are likely to be temporary. Icy surfaces will be an additional hazard."

The Met Office yellow warning for Wednesday said some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train.

There is the risk of slips and falls on icy surfaces for pedestrians and there could be icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, making conditions hazardous.

Among the affected regions are Greater Manchester, Cheshire Warrington, Derbyshire, Northumberland, Blackburn, Cumbria and Lancashire.

Merseyside, Cheshire West and Chester and Halton are also encompassed by the weather warning.
