Snow in Leeds: Met Office says snow is set to hit Leeds today

Winter is set to arrive in Leeds today (Thursday), with snow forecast to fall across the city in the coming hours.

Temperatures have plummeted in recent days and several areas of North Yorkshire have seen snow overnight. In some remote regions of the Yorkshire Dales, people woke up to eight inches of snow.

While Leeds is unlikely to see the same level of wintry weather imminently, the Met Office has forecast snow for the city later today.

Rain is predicted to fall throughout the morning, which means the snow may not settle in some areas, but with the mercury falling it could lead to treacherous conditions on the roads.

Met Office 10-day trend: Snow on the way, but where?

From 10am until 1pm, forecasters predict there will be heavy rainfall across the city, with the temperature falling to just 3°C.

At 2pm, the rain will turn to sleet - and by 3pm we are set for a full-blown snowfall.

As if the snow wasn't enough to chill your bones, the icy winds will make it feel as though it is just 1°C.

Although the Met Office is not predicting any more snowfall over the weekend, they are suggesting it could get even colder overnight.

Arctic winds will once again rip through Leeds on Friday, when the "feels like" temperature will drop as low at -1°C.
