Snow forecast for Greater Manchester as weather warning in place

Snow could fall over parts of Greater Manchester on Friday, forecasters predict.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice for parts of our region from midnight on Friday (January 7) to 10am.

It covers parts of Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Wigan.

The warning also covers parts of Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Cumbria, Scotland and Ireland.

Forecasters say there could be 'frequent sleet and snow showers' which could lead to some difficult driving conditions.

There may also be disruption to travel on Friday morning, with some roads and railways likely to be affected.

Temperatures could plummet to around 1C overnight on Friday, forecasters predict.

This comes after a yellow weather warning for ice was issued for Greater Manchester this morning (January 4), as temperatures plummeted following an unseasonably warm spell.

Warm winds from the mid-Atlantic meant temperatures hovered around the 16C mark in parts of the UK as 2021 came to an end.

The Met Office said Saturday saw the warmest New Year’s Day on record.

On Monday evening, temperatures in Greater Manchester started to drop to almost freezing.

The warning today came into place at 2am, and will last until 11am.

It covers our entire region, as well as much of the north west and north east.
