Snow forecast by Met Office for parts of Wales tonight

Snow has been forecast for parts of Wales tonight as temperatures are set to dip this evening.

The Met Office has forecast that we're set to see blustery wintry showers with some snow accumulation over higher ground. It also predicts there will be widespread frost with potential ice for some, and a risk of severe coastal gales. There will be a minimum temperature of 0 °C.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern explained in his forecast on the Met Office website that temperatures would be "up and down like a yo yo over the next few days." He said the weather for today was a result of cold wind coming from Greenland, bringing with it some "lively showers" and "sleet and snow mixed in".

Mr McGivern added that settling snow would mainly be confined to the Pennines and Scottish mountains above 300 metres.

"At lower levels it is sleet and snow showers which will push through quickly with clear spells in between," he said.

Tomorrow, meanwhile, it is predicted that we'll see a largely clear and bright start with patchy cloud thickening from the west during the afternoon. Isolated showers during the evening will precede overnight rain. It will feel chilly with a maximum temperature of 11 °C.

As for the outlook for Sunday to Tuesday, it looks like it is going to be murky on Sunday and Monday with light rain and drizzle, although turning milder. It will be largely clear and dry on Tuesday before a band of rain arrives from the northwest.
