
Due to a cold front much like one experienced in midwinter, snow accumulated along the mountains in the Kanto-Koshin region, and snowfall was also observed in central Tokyo Sunday and is expected to continue throughout the Kanto region until the evening.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, snow in the mountains in northern Kanto has been heavy since this morning, and rain throughout Tokyo's 23 wards turned into snow around 9 a.m. A heavy snowfall warning has been issued for the Tama area in western Tokyo.
As of 10 a.m., 20 centimeters of snow fell in Kusatsu, Gunma Prefecture, 19 centimeters in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, 13 centimeters in Nagano City, eight centimeters in Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, two centimeters in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture and one centimeter in Maebashi.
