Victorian snow lovers are enjoying the first falls of the season after a bleak opening weekend, with more expected overnight.
A cold front making its way across the state has brought moisture, gusty winds and cold air, bring snow to the state's alpine peaks, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
"At the moment, the the snow levels up over the peaks are about 1700m, and their forecast to drop down to 1200m overnight," senior meteorologist Joanna Hewes told AAP.
"We expect that there's favourable conditions for a bit more snow to fall overnight, tonight and into tomorrow morning."
The Bureau doesn't record snowfalls directly, but conditions and rainfall indicated up to 10cm of snow had fallen in the past 24 hours, with a similar amount expected by the same time tomorrow.
The dusting came as a relief to the state's ski resorts after a dry King's Birthday opening weekend, but ski lifts remain closed at Falls Creek, Mount Hotham, and Mount Buller, although Buller is running its Bourke St Carpet.
Some more bursts of cold air are expected over the weekend, but carrying less moisture than the current system.
"The stuff that people are excited about today, that's likely to be the bulk of it, and then just a couple of flurries later on in the week," Ms Hewes said.
