The forecaster has predicted snow to fall on Saturday, February 29 and Friday, March 6.

But the Met Office has said disagreed, arguing that we will probably be in for more wet and windy weather.

The Met Office also warned of potential snow over northern hills in the UK next week. A spokesman said: “Hail and thunder are also possible in the showery interludes with snow at times over northern hills.

“Some brief quieter, colder spells are also possible later in the period, with the best of the dry weather away from the far northwest.

“These periods may also bring some overnight frost and patchy fog in places.”

Commenting on the weather this, Met Office meteorologist, Aidan McGivern warned of “strong and gusty wind” to persist for many.

Mr McGivern warned “strong gusty winds” could hit speeds of 50mph.

Starting the day of Wednesday 26, many areas will struggle to reach temperatures above freezing.

Across the country many could see levels as low as 3C (37.4F) across the country as well as “frost” in the morning.

Following the cold start, a heavy band of rain will arrive late morning on Wednesday and will stay for much of the day.

On Thursday, the rain will continue across most of the country, while “wintry showers could be possible across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland”.
