Snow blizzards with strong winds to batter Scotland this weekend

Scotland is set to be battered with heavy snow and strong winds over the weekend and into next week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as Storm Ciara brings 70mph winds followed by blizzards on Monday and Tuesday.

Travel delays and loss of power are to be expected with coastal routes and sea fronts likely to be affected by spray and large waves.

Delays for high-sided vehicles on bridges will also be likely as the bad weather continues.

The yellow warning will come into place from midnight Monday until 12pm on Tuesday with frequent snow showers expected across most of Scotland.

Snow showers will mainly be over high ground. Strong winds, gusting 50-60 mph, will lead to blizzard conditions at times and considerable drifting of lying snow.

Frequent lightning strikes are also possible, which may lead to interruptions to power supplies.
