Snow blast on cards AGAIN in second bitter cold snap as White Easter odds slashed

There is going to be some lovely, sunny, mild weather around today... but don’t be tempted to put your winter coat away just yet.

Temperatures across most of Britain will reach 10C to 14C during the day, forecasters have predicted.

But by the evening and into tomorrow northerly winds will bring colder air from the polar seas and gales of up to 50mph in some places.

Many places could see frost on Wednesday morning with the average temperature back down to 5C.

The rest of the week is forecast to be very unsettled with wind and scattered rain showers. There could even be some snow flurries over higher ground.

There was still snow on the ground yesterday in places such as Menwith Hill near Harrogate, North Yorks.

With Easter less than a month away, bookmakers Coral have cut the odds on a white Easter from 3/1 to 4/5.

The bizarre weather comes as more than 1,500 people were evacuated from their homes in Pajaro, California, after floods due to a levee bursting.

The US state has faced unseasonable storms that have brought enormous amounts of snow and rain.

Met Office forecaster Daniel Rudman said: “There is a strong signal for colder air to once again feed into the north of the UK today. This flow is likely to extend southwards with much of the UK likely to be under the influence of colder conditions overnight.

“Tomorrow is set to remain a cold day, but it is not expected to be as cold as conditions have been and there will be brighter periods for most.

“There are likely to be some showers too, although any snow fall is expected be over higher elevations.”

Met Office records show the last white Easter, when there were widespread snow falls, was in 2008. In 2013, the mercury dropped to then-record -12.5C lows. But more recently, 2019 sprang to a balmy, record-nudging 24.6C.

It looks like this March will be colder than winter for the first time in a decade.

The temperature so far this month averages just 3.6C – 2.1C below normal – Met Office figures for central England show. Coral’s John Hill said: “There’s no danger of Easter eggs melting this year.”
