Snow arrives in Midlothian with works ongoing to keep busy A702 clear for motorists

Snow showers arrived in Midlothian this morning with tricky driving conditions being reported on the busy A702.

Amey Trunk Roads took to social media at around 9.20am to say that gritters are out on the route working to clear the road and keep it safe for motorists.

They add that: "Driving to the conditions is essential during winter weather as a small incident can have a huge impact on traction, and gritters being able to pass and keep roads open."

Images posted by the trunk roads team show thick snow on the ground at Nine Mile Burn near Penicuik.

Edinburgh is expected to remain free of snow for the remainder of Thursday, although heavy rain is likely to persist for much of the morning and early afternoon according to the Met Office.

Temperatures are looking like sticking around the 2C or 3C mark, but often feeling colder than freezing.
