Snow and ice to follow Storm Brendan as Scots prepare for two days of weather chaos

Weather forecasters have issued a 12-hour warning for snow and ice in Scotland tomorrow.

The Met Office have issued the yellow weather alert for the harsh conditions from 1am to 1pm.

Icy patches and wintry showers is expected to hit much of the Highlands over the 12-hour period, potentially bringing chaos to road and rail links.

Inverness , Aviemore, Fort William and Ullapool are all likely to be affected.

Weather experts have also warned of untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths that could lead to injuries on icy surfaces.

Commuters in the area can expect longer journeys by road, bus and train services .

The potential wintry conditions will come just a day after Scotland braced itself for a 12 hour battering from Storm Brendan .

Gales of up to 80mph are expected to sweep large parts of the UK from midday today.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued for the western half of the UK and the north east of Scotland.
