In the country: Herefordshire. This three-bedder and its 0.7 acres are tucked into a hillside overlooking the Malverns at Linton, near Ross-on-Wye. Wreck of the week: Berkshire. About £50,000 would renew the wiring, septic tank and decor on this two-bed cottage in Kiff Green, Upper Woolhampton. Another £100,000 would enlarge it, but that’s all on top of the £395,000 asking price. The large gardens back on to open country, but inside the more elevated among us might come into conflict with the low ceilings.

Dream home: Scotland.
