In town: London. Love it or hate it, this 43-storey tower in Saffron Square, Croydon, is a spectacular addition to the skyline, with views to the City and arty design. For £162,000 you get an apartment with a shared roof terrace and fitness centre, but it is worth remembering that Croydon is still reinventing itself as a desirable postcode. There are farmland views front and back, but inside it could do with a cosmetic facelift and the windows need imminent renewal. Smiths GorePhotograph: Smiths GoreWreck of the week: Kent. These fine Georgian buildings, saved when the Royal Navy left the Sheerness Dockyard in Sheppey, are priced at £380,000, and comprise two buildings with planning permission to become one four-bedroom house. The main house has been restored; the other hasn’t. Unfortunately it is in a working port, so you must go through security. Jackson-Stops & Staff Photograph: Jackson-Stops & Staff
Bargain of the Week: London. £329,950 is, believe it or not, a relatively cheap way to gain two bedrooms in a London conservation area. Similarly sized cottages in this part of Balham sell for nearer £600,000 and this bland, purpose-built block is surrounded by millionaires’ houses. You can forget the unloveliness of the building in the two double bedrooms and refitted kitchen and bathroom, and you’re handy for the gastronomic pleasures round Balham High Road.
