In town: Devon. This is a large, three-bed grade II-listed Georgian house near the centre of Ashburton on the edge of Dartmoor. It’s a shame you’ll have to fork out a few grand more for a designated parking slot round the corner on top of the £495,000 asking price.

In the country: Durham. This three-bedder overlooks the remote village of Eastgate, near Bishop Auckland, and has its own large paddock to the front, as well as a detached garage. It’s a shame a neighbour has the right to pass garden equipment through the paddock. Cost: £295,000.

Wreck of the week: Greater London. Less than a mile from West Wickham station in Shirley, near Croydon, sits this three-bed semi. It’s awful inside: it needs rewiring and central heating just for starters, all of which will require an outlay beyond its £285,000 price tag. However, there is a 90ft garden, a garage and the potential for two more bedrooms. It's right in the middle of pebbledash suburbia, which won't suit all tastes.

It sits in a lovely site beside an old stone bridge in the village of Loutses, and has original features throughout. The old press trough and stones, the barrel and oil well should make a great talking point in the living room.
