Snooping around – in pictures

Snooping around 040611: Snooping around in Edinburgh
In town: Edinburgh. This is a flat in name only. Situated in Grosvenor Crescent in the heart of the West End, it has palatially sized rooms, a conservatory, three bedrooms, wine cellars and a private walled garden. It’s a shame its lower ground position will alarm nervous souls. Yours for £465,000.

Snooping around 040611: Snooping around in Iwerne Minster, Dorset
In the country: Dorset. This costs £375,000 and is hidden up a bridleway surrounded by hilly farmland in the village of Iwerne Minster, near Blandford Forum. The large kitchen/dining room can be stocked from the two village shops, there are three bedrooms and scope for expansion. It’s a shame the village school is private.

Snooping around 040611: Snooping around in Leckhampstead, Buckinghamshire
Wreck of the week: Buckinghamshire. This five-bed, 18th-century house is untouched by the new century. About £100,000 would redo the roof and joinery, and replace the fittings. It has huge scope for expansion into the outbuildings and garden, and wide rural views of the surrounding countryside near Leckhampstead, Buckingham. The front door opens on to the road. Cost: £575,000.

Snooping 040611: Dream home in Mayfair, London
Dream home: London. This seven-bed house in one of the most prestigious addresses in London has a very particular taste in decor: 70s porn set. It’s hard to imagine how something that is mostly painted white could end up looking like Jackie Collins’s principle home, but this house in Mayfair is straight out of The Stud. We are fascinated by the silver dining room chairs, the shag pile in the cinema room and the spikey haired statue sitting at the bottom of the staircase (is she one of those living statues?). Almost irresistible at £29.5m.

Snooping around 040611: Beach hut in Old Hunstanton, Norfolk
By the sea: Norfolk. There is something incredibly pleasing and old fashioned about beach huts, and they have proved a good investment over the years. This gorgeous example in Old Hunstanton has been owned by a family for 10 years, who are now selling it for £55,000 to fund their daughter through university. It is close to a car park, public toilets and a fresh water tap, and is within spitting distance of the Hunstanton golf club and, happily, a life boat station, cafe and beach shop.
