Meanwhile, the top floor has a kitchenette. It’s just a shame said top floor and kitchen were overlooked during the cosmetic renovations. Yours for £495,000.

In the country: Wiltshire. The ecclesiastical past of this £350,000 three-bedder in Great Cheverell, near Devizes, has bequeathed vaulted, beamed ceilings and huge, arched windows. Two of the bedrooms are, unfortunately, fairly petite, but a mezzanine study is a welcome addition.

Wreck of the week: London. This £265,000 one-bed flat is atop a tax office in Putney, SW15. About £30,000 would replace the boiler, gas pipes, windows, kitchen and bathroom. It might be worth the challenge: a similar-sized, renovated flat nearby recently sold for £315,000. But it is on a busy road with no outside space.
