Snooping around: Homes for auction

Savills
Property of the week: Loch Eck, Argyll. This four-bedder hasn’t been on the market since 1932, and you can see why. For a meagre £395,000 you get 2.25 acres of colourfully shrubbed land sloping down to the loch, behind which rear wild hills. A wooden bridge crosses the burn in the garden and deposits you on your private beach. Three bedrooms are doubles, there’s an Aga, and a garage to extend into. It’s a shame the front door opens into the lounge.

Wreck of the week: Erbistock, Wrexham. This two-bed semi is in a bad way. The windows are shot, the whitewash needs whitewashing and structural work is needed - budget for upwards of £50,000. It’s also listed, so proposals must be approved. It could be worth the effort though: it’s in an exquisite hamlet next to the river Dee, boasting dramatic walks along the bank. There are water views from within and a large terraced garden. Cost: £145,000.

Kivells
Take three: homes for auction This three-bedder sits loftily above the village of St Neot on the fringes of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. Although the interior needs a vigorous update there are many pluses - a decent pub, a tearoom and soulful walks all round, as well as planners amenable to a two-storey side and rear extension to supplement the two receptions, kitchen and bathroom. The auction is on July 8 and you can expect to pay £190,000 to £200,000.

Strutt & Parker
Take three: homes for auction This lavish stone house stands in 2.5 acres near Ludlow, Shropshire, with unspoilt countryside all around. Rooms include three receptions, a kitchen/breakfast room, a utility room, a pantry, a storeroom, four bedrooms and cellars. All are hospitably sized with surviving period embellishments. Alas, it’s derelict. Keep £200,000 spare to regain its glory on top of the £450,000 guide price. Auction is on June 5.

TW Gaze
Take three: homes for auction This handsome chunk of Georgiana near Bungay, Norfolk, has a third of an acre of garden and permission to demolish part of the rear and rebuild. This would expand the kitchen and a couple of eaves bedrooms. You also get three receptions, a kitchen, four beds, a dressing room, a bathroom and outbuildings. It could do with a trendier kitchen and bathroom. The auction is on May 30. Expect to pay £300,000-£320,000.
