Snoop Dogg has responded to the backlash he received over his comments about the Pixar film Lightyear, as rumours of his replacement as the AFL grand final headliner continue to swirl.
ICYMI, the rapper’s slot as this year’s grand final performer has been called into question, after his seemingly homophobic past comments resurfaced at the same time Adelaide Crows player Izak Rankine received a four-match ban for using the f-slur.

It led to the CEO of the AFL, Andrew Dillon, defending the choice of Snoop Dogg as the performer, but matters were made worse last week when Snoop Dogg reacted to Lightyear — which features a same-sex couple — during an appearance on the It’s Giving podcast.
“They’re putting it everywhere,” Snoop said in reference to queer characters in kids’ movies, before adding that the storyline “threw me for a loop”.
“I’m scared to go to the movies now, like y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for,” the rapper said.
Now, Snoop has addressed the backlash on social media, saying he was “just caught off guard” by the same-sex storyline and “had no answer for my grandsons”, who he claimed had asked him about the lesbian couple when he saw the movie with them.
“All my gay friends [know] what’s up,” Snoop wrote in the comments section of an Instagram video calling him out, per The Hollywood Reporter.
“They been calling me with love. My bad for not knowing the answers for a six-year-old. Teach me how to learn. I’m not perfect,” he added.

While the AFL has yet to confirm whether Snoop has been axed as the grand final headliner, rumours have nonetheless been swirling that he will be replaced by Eminem.
The speculation reached fever pitch last week, when radio presenter Nikki Osborne claimed on her show (per The Daily Mail) that she “knows people” who have revealed that Eminem is Snoop’s rumoured replacement, ahead of the grand final on September 27.
“Eminem’s the backup,” Osborne claimed.
The rumours remain unconfirmed, with Dillion appearing steadfast in the AFL’s choice to enlist Snoop as the headliner while defending the rapper late last month.

“We cannot vouch for every lyric in every song ever written or performed by any artist who has or will appear on our stage,” Dillon said.
It comes amid a broader reckoning of homophobia in the AFL, following former player Mitch Brown’s watershed coming out last week.
