Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliot and Ja Rule send well wishes to DMX after suspected overdose

Snopp Dogg, Missy Elliot and Ja Rule are among thousands of people sending well wishes to rapper DMX after he was rushed to hospital.

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, was reportedly in critical condition after a reported overdose triggered a heart attack and he was placed on life support.

According to TMZ, the 50-year-old remains in the critical care unit in hospital in White Plains, New York.

It's said he overdosed at his home at around 11pm on Friday.

His attorney later confirmed he was taken off life support and is breathing on his own.

Richman spoke with Simmons' family and said the performer was in the middle of making a movie when he suffered a heart attack.

He also later told PIX11 that DMX was taken off life support, but he is still concerned about his client's condition.

He added: "I've spoken to the family and the family and I are quite close with each other.

"I am concerned about his well-being and mindful of his significance.

"I have known Earl for over 25 years and I believe that his music is quite poignant, very important.

"He's truly a poet of our time."
