Shaun Murphy appeared to annoy opponent David Gilbert with his celebrations during their UK Championship match.
The 2005 World Champion opened his campaign in York with a tense 6-5 win over English compatriot David Gilbert as he took the final two frames to progress.
Murphy was 67 behind in the sixth frame but delivered an impressive selection of shots including an excellent pot on the black to level the scores at 3-3.
He responded by fist pumping in celebration as he received a round of applause from the crowd inside the Barbican in York.
Gilbert didn't appear impressed though as he raised his eyebrows and pulled a face, with TV cameras picking up his reaction.
"A little bit of fist pumping going on there and I don't think David appreciated that one too much," the commentator said.
The clip was shared by the World Snooker Tour with many fans split on Murphy's behaviour. @MikeyHobson3 wrote: "Everyone has their own ways of easing the pressure off themselves, if it was Ronnie O'Sullivan doing it there would be no debate, we’d be praising it."
That comment was backed up by @BroncosGent, who added: "I'm fine with it. It's not liked be ripped his waistcoat off and danced on the table." And @prenticeelliot posted: "No malice involved, a natural reaction to winning a great frame.
But @nigelwinship wasn't impressed and wrote: "I didn’t like it when he did it against Kyren Wilson in the World Champs and don’t like it much here either!"
Speaking before the match, Murphy admitted he had been playing through the pain barrier of late having undergone gastric sleeve surgery earlier this year.
"I've still got a few neck and back problems. It's been at me now for the last couple of days, 48 hours or so, and I've been having a bit of physio on it here in York," he said.
"It's not perfect by any means so I'm playing a lot of shots in a bit of pain this week. Hopefully that won't cause me too much of a problem, but I'm doing my best, and I'll give 100%."
