Snooker ace Ken Doherty forms unlikely friendship with film star Jackie Chan

Irish snooker legend Ken Doherty has formed an unlikely friendship with film icon Jackie Chan.

The cue ace and the martial arts king hung out together in Hong Kong last weekend.

Doherty showed Chan, 64, some trick shots on a snooker table and the kung fu maestro brought the Dubliner to a karaoke bar.

Ranelagh man Doherty posted one picture on his Instagram with his arm around the Rush Hour star in front of a table full of shot glasses and cigars.

Doherty, 49, told World Snooker: "He is one of my heroes, he is fantastic.

"I was invited to have dinner with him at a charity night, then we went to sing karaoke together, then played snooker and I showed him some trick shots.

"He is great company, just the way you see him on screen. And he loves a sing-song, just like the Irish.

"It was one of the best and funniest night I’ve ever had."

The 1997 world champion then flew to Beijing to take part in the China Open.

And the partying with film royalty had him fighting fit as Doherty battled past reigning world champ Mark Williams to win 6-4 in the first round.
