John Krasinski turned the opening sequence of The Office into a song on Saturday Night Live.

The actor made his hosting debut on Saturday’s episode, which marked the show’s return in 2021 as well as its first instalment of Joe Biden’s presidency.

One of the skits featured cast members putting lyrics to the opening themes of well known TV shows such as Frasier, Stranger Things, and Succession.

Krasinski, naturally, was tasked with singing along to the opening theme of the US version of The Office, in which he had his breakout role as Jim Halpert from 2005 to 2013.

He began by repeating the name “Scranton” several times, as a nod to the Pennsylvania city where the series takes place.

Krasinski then name-checked Jim’s nemesis Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), referring to him as “the bad guy”.

His lyrics included the statement: “And the hero’s name is Jim,” followed by “that’s his girlfriend” when the camera turned to Pam Beesly, Jim’s long-running love interest in the programme.

Krasinski also directly referenced Steve Carell, who famously played Michael Scott on the show.

The skit was one in a series of references to The Office on Saturday’s episode of SNL

During his opening monologue, Krasinski faced incessant requests from his fellow comedians to revive his performance as Jim.
