A labourer was caught by police sniffer dogs trying to sneak ketamine and cocaine wrapped in a condom into a Scots music festival attended by 20,000 revellers.
Liam Stuart was caught with the drugs haul as he passed through security at the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston.
The 21-year-old was attending the Terminal V electronic music festival at the venue on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
Stuart appeared at the city’s sheriff court on Wednesday and admitted possessing the drugs with intent to supply.
The court head Stuart was smuggling in the drugs - worth up to £667 - for nine friends he was attending the dance event with.
Fiscal depute Sarah Noon said “amnesty bins” were set out before the security checks to give festival-goers a chance to dispose of any contraband.
Ms Noon said it was around 1.55pm last October 26 when Stuart went past the bins to security where a sniffer dog reacted to him.
The court heard Stuart immediately told the police dog handler he was carrying drugs.
Ms Noon said the accused was taken to the “search tent” where police officers found 30 wraps of drugs in a condom.
She said the Class B ketamine could be worth up to £354 while the Class A cocaine was valued at up to £313.
Defence agent Andrew Houston said Stuart, of the city’s Pilton area, was a first offender who lived with his parents.
Mr Houston said his client was with nine friends who had “pulled their resources to purchase controlled drugs to consume at the event”.
The solicitor said Stuart was the “nominated custodian” of the drugs, and there was “no suggestion that he was attending to sell to persons unknown to him”.
Stuart had hoped to travel to Australia, Mr Houston added, but those plans had to be shelved due to his conviction.
Mr Houston said Stuart, who worked a labourer at the city’s Leith Docks, accepted responsibility for his actions and it was a “lesson learned”.
Sheriff Adrian Cottam ordered Stuart to pay a £840 fine.
