Sneaky dad who tricked wife into using his favourite baby name branded 'genius'

Parents don’t always see eye to eye when it comes to naming their newborn. But one new dad has employed some sneaky reverse psychology to get his way, and his wife was oblivious.

Responding to a viral TikTok video where a woman called Gabby Lamb asks, "Do you ever regret what you named your kid?", Stefan has revealed his cunning tactics to get the name he wanted for his daughter, and not his wife’s choice.

In his TikTok video, which has been viewed more than 131,000 times, he describes his wife as a "bit of a drama queen", and brands her name choice terrible.

"She wanted to call her f**king Aubrey!" he explains. But it wasn’t the name that offended him, but his wife’s reasoning behind her choice.

"She likes it because it’s from MTV’s Teen Mum," he said. "So I had to think of a good way of getting around this without her thinking that I didn’t want the child to be called Aubrey.

“Because if I didn’t want the child to be called Aubrey there was a f**king 100 percent fact that it would be called Aubrey just to get one over on me.”

He executed his plan to get his way using reverse psychology and it worked a treat. "I said I love Aubrey, perfect name for a child. Amazing name. Our daughter shall be called Aubrey.

"Because I said I loved the name she kept on looking." His wife drew up lists of possible names and he got involved. He made sure his top choice, Olivia, appeared in every one of those lists.

His act of deceit starting coming together and she said: "I really like the name Olivia. And I said, absolutely not. There is no way you are calling my child Olivia, to which she replied, 'Yes I am'."

He engineered a little argument he eventually said to his unwitting wife, "Alright, you can call her Olivia, only if I get to choose the middle name and she said fine.

"So not only did I end up getting the name I wanted I also got my sister’s name as a middle name as well, Olivia Rachel Ann."

The calculating lengths Stefan went to drew many amused comments, while others were impressed.

"This is genius,” said one, while another said, "The long game, love the dedication."

Good work, said one comment: "I absolutely respect the thought that went into that. Olivia is from MTVs the hills and is the most popular name in the last 10 years, bad choice."

Been there, done that said one comment: "You're a very clever man! When I was pregnant with my youngest, her dad wanted her to be called Karol - Ann. Her name is Kaitlin."

"My dad should’ve done this," said one comment. "Not a single person except my mother wanted me to be named Liselle but here we are."
