A light show has been displayed in Hamilton's James Street Plaza for the first time as works in the public domain draw to an end.
The side of the ANZ building was lit up in recent days in a preview run of the video illumination that will soon be a unique fixture of the upgraded plaza.
Newcastle council will finalise the overhaul it commenced in April in the coming weeks.
The lighting design is one of three the community was asked to vote on last month. All three were designed by the University of Newcastle's Future Art Science & Technology Lab (FASTLab) and celebrated aspects of Hamilton's history and character.
A "Microcosmic Mosaic" concept was favoured and developed into a longer animation that will feature on the bank wall at night.
A number of artworks will also feature in the renewed plaza, informed by local historian Ruth Cotton - the author of Hidden Hamilton - and through collaboration with Newcastle Museum.

"Hamilton locals told us they wanted a safer, more appealing place to spend time," lord mayor Nuatali Nelmes said.
"This is a place where we hope to see the community gather and activate the space with music, markets and food."
Hamilton Business Association Incorporated president Janice Musumeci said traders were looking forward to the plaza reopening.
"We're already exploring ideas for how we can activate James Street Plaza for the whole community like live music spots and regular markets," she said.
"Hamilton is already seeing great business growth so this will be a great drawcard to bring people back to supporting local businesses."
