Snapshot from the 1940s that is making people believe that 'time travel is real'

An old picture from 1940s Britain has sent conspiracy theorists reeling, as they believe that it proves time travel is real.

The image shows a busy beach scene from the wartime years, packed full of sunbathers relaxing and enjoying a sunny day.

But one of the beachgoers has caught the eye of theorists who claim he's a "quantum leaper" - judging by what he appears to be doing in the picture.

The snap was taken in Cornwall in September 1943, and amongst the sunbathers, it looks as though there is an imposter.

In the middle of the picture, a man dressed in a brown suit appears to be glued to an object in his hand that looks like a smartphone, the Sun reports.

As well as questioning his outfit choice, social media users became embroiled in a fierce debate over what was preoccupying the man.

He was quickly dubbed the "texting time traveller" after many pointed out he appeared to be scrolling through a mobile phone.

While some say the man is probably rolling a cigarette, others are firm believers that he's scrolling on a phone - proving the existence of time travel (Getty Images)

Others thought that this was a ridiculous claim, and instead suggested that he was rolling a cigarette, but some remained adamant the picture taken at Towan Beach in Newquay was firm evidence "that time travel is real".

One comment read: "Er...is it just me or is this guy checking his phone…..in the 1940s?"

Another wrote: "Shows how much beachwear has changed! Jacket, tie and hat? Mind they did that when I was a kid in the 50s."

A third added: "Good catch. It’s clearly the man in the shot is a time travelling tourist checking his mobile device.

"Finally the evidence we need that time travel is real."

Some people were quick to dismiss their hopes, with one admitting: ""I think that chap is rolling a cigarette!"

This isn't the first time a historic image has recently resurfaced, sparking conversations about time travel.

Art fans were recently left "baffled" after a painting from all the way back from the 1860s appeared to show a young woman holding an iPhone.

Another man was spotted thumbing what looks like an iPhone in a 1930s mural of a scene from 17th century New England.
