Snappy Shopper appoints new chief financial officer

The Snappy Group has appointed Barry McGonagle as its new chief financial officer.

His appointment is the latest of several senior appointments in recent months following a successful fundraiser last year.

McGonagle will lead the company’s financial operations and set the finance strategy to drive Snappy Group’s growth.

He previously held senior finance roles within Trip.com Group and Skyscanner.

In December, the company strengthened its senior sales team with the appointments of Paul Adams as group sales director, and Alasdair Lindsay as head of hospitality sales at Hungrrr, a constituent business of the Snappy Group.

The Dundee-based e-commerce group raised £19.4m in Series A financing last August. It also added former Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King to its board as an advisor.

The funds have already started to help bring in new people, technology, marketing and partner services.

The group has grown from 220 to 1,700 business partners since December 2019, and to more than one million users across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Its annualised Gross Merchandise Volume is £140m.

Snappy Group is formed of two businesses, Snappy Shopper and Hungrr, operating in the UK convenience grocery sector and the hospitality sector.

Mike Callachan, chief executive and co-founder of The Snappy Group, said: “I am very pleased that Barry has agreed to join our senior leadership team - his experience with start ups and high-growth technology businesses, as well as larger corporations will be extremely valuable to the Snappy Group as we pursue our goal to support more and more local businesses to bring on demand convenience to local communities across the UK and beyond.”

McGonagle added: “I was drawn to the mission of empowering local businesses to serve their communities online and I’ve been hugely impressed with what the team has managed to achieve in such a short space of time - Snappy is on an exciting journey and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of it.”
