Snape Wood Primary School sends home 2 year groups after confirmed Covid cases

Two year groups at a school in the Bulwell area have been sent home following positive coronavirus test results.

Both Year 2 and Year 5 have been sent home at Snape Wood Primary and Nursery School in Aspen Road, Bulwell, as of Monday, July 19.

The two year group closures follow the school's first bubble closure ten days ago, when a single case within the school community led to the closure of Year 3.

The cases come as most legal restrictions eased as of midnight on July 19, including the wearing of face masks, social distancing and more.

The headteacher, Shewley Choudhury, told Nottinghamshire Live: "We are following the local authority's safety guidance.

"Year 2 and Year 5 have had positive PCR cases and staff and children have been sent home and bubbles closed.

"Classrooms will be deep-cleaned and work packs will be given. We are also looking at remote learning."

Isolation lasts 10 days.

Mrs Choudhury added they were awaiting confirmation of any positive cases in Year 6 before any further bubble closures, while also waiting for additional guidance from the local authority on what to do next.

According to Education Secretary Gavin Williamson only pupils who test positive will have to isolate, rather than close contacts, from August 16.
