Snapchat DOWN globally with thousands affected following social media outages

Snapchat appears to be down for thousands of users, the third time a social media giants has been hit in recent days.

It comes following a widespread outage of social media platforms owned by tech giant Facebook.

Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook all suffered mass outages in recent days as people flocked to other platforms in their absence.

Picture and messaging app Snapchat was said to have been the big winner when Facebook went down for around six hours last Monday.

Snapchat saw a 20% surge in users during its rival's outage, which reportedly cost Mark Zuckerberg's company $6bn , according to the BBC.

Gmail, TikTok and Snapchat users all complained that the apps were slowing down amid the outage of Facebook companies as people sought an alternative to share their information, messages and photos.

Snapchat users have headed to the Down Detector website to report a flaw in their usual service, with more than 20,000 reporting an issue.

Of those unhappy, 60% are say there is a problem with the app, 21% have issues logging on and 19% say they are having connection problems.

Concerned users started reporting issues at around 11.30am, with many more arrivign later with similar complaints.
