Snapchat crashes for thousands of users

Snapchat appears to be down for tens of thousands of users.

Real-time problem and outage monitoring website DownDetector shows a spike in reports that the popular app was down from around 11.35am this morning - with around 30,000 uses reporting problems.

On other social media, Snapchat has told users it's "looking into it", reports The Mirror.

It comes out on the heels of a major social media blackout last week, that affected Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram.

Facebook, which owns all three platforms, said the glitch was caused by an error during a routine maintenance job and "not by malicious activity".

At the time, Facebook sad the multibillion pound company said: “We’re so sorry if you weren’t able to access our products during the last couple of hours.

"We know how much you depend on us to communicate with one another.

"We fixed the issue — thanks again for your patience this week.”

Snapchat has 300 million active monthly users who make billions of posts on the platform each day.
