Snack van boss that had kitchen nicked in dead of night returns with new set-up

A snack van owner was delighted to be back in business this week

Katie Laughlin took to Facebook two weeks ago to tell punters the reason that ‘Katie’s Kitchen’ was not in its usual spot on Jack Street car park in Motherwell.

And this week she was over the moon to deliver the good news and announce the arrival of her new state-of-the-art snack van in the usual spot.

Katie said: “Once it had sank in what had happened, we were devastated. Firstly at the fact that someone would do that and secondly at the reality that we had lost everything overnight.

“We then had two options – go out of business or start again. Once we decided to start again, Catering trailers Scotland Ltd worked tirelessly around the clock to get our new van ready and back on site to get us back in business.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support from customers, family, friends and other businesses. We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone as well as the paper for sharing our story and the biggest thank you goes to Catering Trailers Scotland as without them this would not have been possible.”

Katie’s original van has still not been recovered and she said that they have made sure the new one is secure and here to stay.

She added: “Our CCTV has been upgraded, hitch and wheels removed, so it is no longer able to be hitched up and moved quickly!”

Speaking to the Advertiser just after the van was stolen, Katie said she was absolutely gutted that someone could do this to her.

She said: “I’ve been in that spot for 25 years and never had a problem, it’s a disgrace that people just think that it’s okay to take your business from you.

“I’m just annoyed as I’ve put everything into it and have built up a great customer base and if I’m not back out quick I could lose my customers. I contacted the police on Monday morning at 7am when I discovered it wasn’t at it usual spot.”

A spokesperson from Police Scotland said: “Police in Motherwell are investigating the theft of a static van from the Stirling Street area of Motherwell. The theft is believed to have taken place between 9pm and 11.30pm on Sunday, October 6.”
