Smyths Toys alert Irish customers after finding 'safety issue' with popular children's items

Smyths Toys are notifying the public over a potential safety issue with some of their products.

The company, which is gearing up for a busy Christmas period ahead, has found a problem with some of their bicycles.

The alert was issued by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on Thursday.

According to the CCPC, Smyths identified a "safety issue" with the breaks of some children's bikes.

An "incorrect housing for the braking system may have been used and over time this may affect the performance of the brakes", the consumer body said.

The affected bicycles were sold between January 1, 2021 and July 31, 2021.

The product codes and bike names of the affected bikes are:

  • 187671 - 12" Tiger Black/Red Bike
  • 118062 - 14" Dinosaur
  • 172771 - 16" Mini Freestyle
  • 158323 - 16" Team MX-16
  • 135176 - 20" Blaze Bike

Smyths has advised consumers who believe that they may have bought one of these products to bring the bicycle to their local store.

The company added that one of their bike experts will inspect the item and replace the cable if required.

People can also contact Smyths customer support if they have any other queries.
