Smuggled cigarettes, whiskey seized in Songkhla

Contraband cigarettes, whiskey and playing cards have been seized from warehouses in Songkhla, with evaded taxes and fines put at 560 million baht.

Department of Special Investigation and Excise and Customs officials, accompanied by local police, raided three warehouses in Songkhla province on Tuesday, acting on information provided by informants, DSI chief Trairit Temahiwong said on Wednesday.

During the raid, the team seized 851,460 packets of foreign cigarettes, worth about 50 million baht, 3,296 bottles of foreign liquor, worth about 900,000 baht, and 3,168 decks of cards, worth about 50,000 baht. 

All were smuggled into the country. The evaded taxes and accompanying fines amount to 560 million baht, he said.

No other details were released.

The investigation into the smuggling network was continuing.
