Smuggled cigarettes and tomahawk seized in major swoop

Weapons including several bats, knives and a tomahawk were recovered in a joint operation carried out by police and trading standards officers.

A large quantity of counterfeit and smuggled cigarettes was also seized after a number of licensed and unlicensed premises in the Tuebrook area were visited.

In a post on its Facebook page yesterday (Tuesday), Merseyside Police said: "In response to information given to us from members of the public and local partners, Tuebrook local policing team visited a number of licensed and unlicensed premises with Liverpool City Council trading standards team.

"£15,000 of counterfeit and smuggled cigarettes were seized along with a vast amount of dangerous weapons including several bats, knives and a tomahawk.

"Several prosecutions will follow via the trading standards team."
