PATTANI: A man was arrested by security officials with 1.6 tonnes of frozen buffalo meat and internal organs in Nong Chik district on Saturday, provincial governor Veeranan Pengchan said in a news conference at the Ingkhayuthaborihan military camp.

Also present at the conference were Maj Gen Jatuporn Kalampasut, commander of the Pattani Task Force, Pol Col Jiraset Dao-ngoentrakul, the deputy provincial police chief, and officials from the provincial livestock office.

Mr Veeranan said Isma-il Loyi, of Songkhla's Chana district, was arrested after a refrigerated Toyota pick-up truck he was driving was stopped for a search at the Ko Mo Kaeng security checkpoint in Nong Chik district.

The officials found frozen buffalo meat and internal organs, weighing 1,606 kilogrammes, which Isma-il said were originally from India and smuggled from Malaysia through the Sadao border checkpoint in Songkhla province.

Isma-il said the buffalo meat and organs were destined for customers in Pattani.
