Smoking, long walks really make a resume stand out

Fully 77 percent of HR managers have spotted an embellishment or outright lie on an applicant's resume, according to an annual CareerBuilder survey that asked HR professionals to cite the weirdest and wackiest mistakes job seekers make.

They found some doozies. Among the most notable and cringe-worthy real-life examples of gaffes HR managers shared were resumes that:

Autocorrected the applicant's name from Freddie to Flintstone

Touted great attention to detail, but misspelled "attention"

Cited working at a federal prison, not being incarcerated there, as a background check revealed

Stated applicant had been a prince in another life

Listed smoking as a hobby

Listed taking long walks as a skill

Lifted direct quotes from "Star Wars"

Claimed applicant would work harder if paid more

Included this notation at the end: "I didn't really fill this out, someone did it for me."

Used a document template featuring pictures of cats.
