Smoke seen from miles away as firefighters battle industrial park fire

Smoke can be seen billowing from miles away as firefighters battled a major industrial park fire.

Emergency services were called to Williams Brothers Industrial Park in Kirkby at about 2.55pm to find a single unit "well alight".

Firefighters are still at the scene as the incident is ongoing.

The fire comes just a day after a huge fire at

Six fire engines were called to Kirkby, and arrived eight minutes after they were called.

Dramatic photos from the scene show smoke billowing into the sky from miles away, as one witness took a picture from Rainford.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus have been fighting the fire internally, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said.

The North West Ambulance Service have been approached by the ECHO to ask if there have been any injuries.

Nearby traffic has been halted and controlled by Merseyside Police, who are assisting the fire service.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the fire service said at 4.10pm: "The fire has been sectorised.

"Crews wearing breathing apparatus are fighting the fire internally using a main branch.

"Merseyside Police are assisting with traffic management.

"Nearby residents and businesses should keep windows and doors closed.

"Anyone with existing medical conditions should keep medicines close by and call NHS 111 if ill effects occur.

"The incident is ongoing."
