Smoke seen coming from dock after 'loud bang' shakes homes

A loud bang "shook" homes along the river front, sending a plume of smoke up into the air.

The loud noise, which sounded like an explosion according to some people, was heard at around 4pm on Thursday, June 16. People in Liverpool and Wirral heard the noise and took pictures of what appeared to be smoke coming from the docklands in Bootle.

Hundreds of people took to social media to speculate what the noise was.

One person said they were sitting on New Brighton Beach when they heard a "massive loud bang" which sent a "shockwave". Another added: "Heard it in New Brighton the house shook".

A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service told The ECHO they had received no calls regarding a big bang or an explosion. Merseyside Police are also looking into the reports. Peel Ports said it was unaware of any incidents.
