Smoke filled a street in Stockport on Sunday night (February 5) after a fire broke out in a basement. Firefighters arrived at the scene on Northgate Road, Edgeley, at around 8pm.
Residents nearby were urged to keep their windows closed, with people told to avoid the area for a number of hours as a precaution. The homeowners had also made it out of the property by the time fire crews arrived at the scene, with no injuries reported.
Pictures from the scene showed a number of firefighters in attendance, as smoke could be seen escaping from the widows of the property.

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At approximately 8pm on Sunday, 5th February, firefighters were called to reports of a fire on Northgate Road, in Edgeley, Stockport.
“Fire engines from Stockport, Cheadle and Whitehill stations quickly attended the scene. The fire involved the basement of a terraced property. All residents were reported to be out of the property when firefighters arrived at the scene.

“Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire. Residents living nearby are pleased asked to avoid the area, and to keep windows and doors shut. The incident is now being scaled down. Firefighters remain at the scene at this time.”
