Smoke billows across M58 as two fires break out hours apart

Smoke could be seen billowing across the M58 after two fires.

Firefighters were called to two fires in Skelmersdale just hours apart. The first happened at around 10am on Monday, July 10 and the second occurred shortly after 3.30pm, reports LancsLive.

Smoke could be seen billowing across the nearby M58 following the second of the two blazes. Crews were called to the second incident at a property off White Moss Road South, near to the M58 motorway and Whitemoss Landfill Site.

Pictures showed the building badly burned out as firefighters worked in windy conditions on Monday. Officers from Lancashire Constabulary were also in attendance and were thought to be assisting with managing the scene.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 3.38pm, two fire engines from Ormskirk and Skelmersdale attended an outbuilding fire on White Moss Road, Skelmersdale.

"The incident involved an outbuilding approximately 20x30m in size. Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels, one jet, small tools, and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. They currently remain in attendance."

The fire came just hours after another blaze which happened nearby at White Moss Lane. On that occasion, crews were called when a caravan was ablaze. That cause of that fire is under investigation.
