Smiths News, the newspaper and magazine distributor, managed a 14.3% rise in pre-tax profits to £15.2m in its first set of interim results since demerging from WH Smith last year. Revenue rose 4.8% to £615m thanks to contract gains. But declines in the circulation of papers and of monthly magazines made for a tough operating market. (Via FT.com )
